LANHAM, Md. – On the eve of what’s expected to be a very close election, President Obama made a special appearance Monday morning on D.C.’s El Zol 107.9 to talk about a number of issues, including the Latino vote and working with New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie following Superstorm Sandy and Donald Trump.

Obama urged Latinos to get out and vote, and said the election is riding on it.

“If the Latino community turns out to vote, we’re going to definitely win this election.”

Voter turnout may be more difficult for some people this election in several Sandy-stricken states. In New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, there are still thousands of people without electricity, gasoline — and in many cases — without a home.

When asked if the election would be postponed, Obama said it’s important Americans have a leader.

“Obviously it’s a very difficult time there,” Obama said. “But we’ve never called off an election in this country. We believe that, no matter what happens, it’s important for us to let the people decide who is going to lead them. So I’m confident that the polls will be open.”

The president shrugged off the criticism that Christie has had for him in the past during the campaign as essentially just typical politics. Obama said he and Christie get along very well, and in the face of the tragedy that struck his state, Christie was “very responsible in making sure the focus stayed on how do we help people.”

Then conversation moved to Donald Trump, who recently offered the president $5 million to supply his school transcripts and documents. When asked if he chose to ignore Trump’s request, the president said that’s usually a “good rule.”

“It’s always good to ignore Donald Trump.

Polls will be open Tuesday until 7 p.m. in Virginia and until 8 p.m. in Maryland and the District.
